Description
Welcome to Earlycoppercoins! I am the owner, Shawn A. Yancey, and I am a member of ANA and Early American Coppers, EAC #4647. I am pleased to offer the following item:1787 New Jersey copper, M43-d, W5235, Small Planchet Plain Shield, R1. This coin has been authenticated and graded by PCGS as MS63BN, and CAC-certified as CHOICE for the assigned grade! The highest grade NJ I have ever handled, by far, and a beautiful example. This coin has sold several times at Heritage, ranging from ,463 to ,775. The last time it sold in 2018, Heritage described it as: "1787 New Jersey Copper Satiny MS63 Brown, Maris 43-d 1787 NJERSY New Jersey Copper, No Sprig Above Plow, MS63 Brown PCGS. CAC. M. 43-d, W-5225, R.1. A curved die crack on the shield aids attribution. This Rahway Mint variety is plentiful, but quality Mint State examples of any New Jersey copper are rare. Glossy medium brown with glimpses of steel-blue on the obverse. Struck a few degrees off center toward 7:30, with a few left-side letters partly off the flan. Impressively devoid of abrasions or carbon. Listed on page 72 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 6 in 63 Brown, 2 finer for all 1787 New Jersey varieties. CAC: 1 in 63, 2 finer (10/17)." I would love to keep this one for myself . . .
