    Description

Offered here at Auction is a 1787 dated New Jersey Copper Cent.  I attribute this coin as a Maris 39-A, with a W-5195 designation by Q. David Bowers in his Colonial and Early American Coins attribution guide book.  This coin has lightly granular surfaces, with moderate pitting in places.  The date is faintly visible, though the 4 digits are not perfectly clear.  I see some surface marks on the shield, some of which could be planchet lamination.  It is hard for me to tell.  Areas seem to show Fine detail, while other areas seem more like Good grade detail.  Grading these early Colonial Coins is not easy for me.  Check out the photos and bid it like you see it.   Q. David Bowers lists this coin a URS-11 in scarcity, or in his analysis 500-999 pieces known to exist.
