    Description

Offered here at Auction is a 1787 dated Connecticut Copper Cent.  I attribute this coin as a Miller 33.2-Z.12, with a W-3360 designation by Q. David Bowers in his Colonial and Early American Coins attribution guide book.  This coin has a decent planchet.  There is no porosity, and the hard copper planchet is attractive.  On the portrait side I see a planchet defect, or lamination of the copper.  On the date side I see two surface marks on the seated figure.  Each of the date digits shows clearly.  The last 7 in the date is about 1/3 on the planchet due to the strike centering.  Overall, a nice coin.   Q. David Bowers lists this coin a URS12 in scarcity, or in his analysis 1000-1999 pieces known to exist.
